Dr. Bhagwat Ram, an expert in logistics, will be sharing his insights on a crucial challenge in today’s shopping world. Whether we shop online or in physical stores, retailers face the big task of getting products to us efficiently. Think of a group of stores all receiving their goods from one central place and using trucks to do it. These very trucks also deliver products right to people’s homes. It’s like a big puzzle, and Dr. Ram uses something called the Vehicle Routing Problem to solve it. .

I present a vehicle routing problem where a group of retail stores is served from a distribution center using a fleet of vehicles. Moreover, products are distributed to consumers from some of these retail stores based on product availability at inventory and by means of the same fleet of vehicles. The vehicle routing problem is used to solve the problem of the omnichannel retailing system. A retailing system is considered an omni-or multi-channel system when consumers can either place orders online or physically visit the stores to buy the products. In this problem, a simulation experiment is performed to check the reduced cost of trasporting the products from retail store to customers transporting.
